A Playdate at Breeden’s Orchard: Cider, Goats, and Free Play Fun in Mount Juliet
This past weekend, Olive and I headed to Breeden’s Orchard in Mount Juliet for a relaxed playdate with a friend. Breeden’s is a gem of a spot if you’re looking for a place that’s part orchard, part play zone, with a laid-back vibe and no entrance fee (yes, you read that right!). If you’re in the area, it’s the perfect stop for fall feels and easy-going fun. Here’s a recap of our adventure and what to expect if you decide to visit.
The Setting
Breeden’s Orchard has a little something for everyone. It’s free to visit and feels almost like a park with a small store, a few goats, and several areas set up for photos. Known for their cider and donuts, Breeden’s is the kind of place where you can spend a casual afternoon letting the kids run free and explore. We arrived at 2 pm, a bit late on a Sunday since they close at 4 pm, but it was still plenty of time for a bit of everything.
Cider, Donuts, and… Oops
Since Breeden’s cider and donuts are a must-try, we joined the line at their store to grab some treats. However, it was a bit of a nail-biter as the line was long, and they were running out! Shortly before we made it to the front, the donuts were all gone, and the frozen cider was announced as the next to
disappear. We managed to snag a frozen cider, but my luck didn’t hold—my daughter accidentally spilled it before I could take a sip. So, fair warning: the treats are popular, and you might want to get there early or keep a tighter grip on your cider if you’re with a toddler! You can find their current hours and seasonal treats on breedensorchard.com.
Fun for Little Ones
The real highlight of Breeden’s for our little ones was the toys and play area scattered around the property. From toy trucks and a mini playhouse to a kids’ table and swing set, there’s plenty for young kids to explore, free of charge. We found a cozy spot to sit while the kids played, and let’s just say they the dirt everywhere told me they enjoyed what they were getting into.
There’s also a well-maintained bathroom with a changing station (a godsend), plus a fenced area for the goats. My daughter, bold as she is, was excited to feed the goats apple cores until one got a bit too close. She was back in my arms faster than you can say “baaa,” but after a few tries, she even gave petting a shot. The goats were adorable but, understandably, a little intimidating for the tiny crowd.
More Orchard Goodies
In addition to cider and donuts, Breeden’s offers a caramel apple bar where you can choose apple types, have them sliced, and load them up with toppings. They also sell mead and other hard ciders crafted from their apples, a great option if you want something a little stronger for a fall afternoon - I didn't know this beforehand and at my age I have to prepare in advance to have a drink or I won't be well for the rest of the week!! Unfortunately, they don’t currently offer apple picking as the trees are still maturing, but there are plenty of apples to choose from in-store.
Tips for a Great Visit
Arrive Early for Treats
If you’re aiming to try the donuts or cider, get there earlier in the day to beat the lines and snag the goods. I don't think this is a common occurrence, we jus had bad luck that day.
Let the Kids Explore
With toys, dirt, and a goat pen, there’s plenty to keep the little ones entertained. Just bring a change of clothes if you care about them getting messy.
Bring a Camera
There are several cute photo areas around the orchard, so it’s easy to snap a few seasonal shots while you’re there.
Breeden’s Orchard is truly the perfect way to spend a fall afternoon, especially if you're not wanting to do much or spend any money. It’s low-key, free to visit, and offers just enough to entertain without feeling overwhelming. And, while we may have missed out on the donuts this time, the relaxed atmosphere and child-friendly setup made for a memorable day. So if you’re looking for a place with plenty of open space, cider, and goats to charm the kiddos, Breeden’s is a great stop to add to your fall lineup!
