Gathered memories that build my life

Embracing the New Year

January often feels like a fresh slate, but as a working mom, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the pressure of resolutions and endless “New Year, New You” messaging. For me, this month is less about drastic changes and more about small, intentional steps that set the tone for the rest of the year.

This year feels different, though. I’m preparing for a major life transition that has brought on more anxiety than I’d like to admit. Between budgeting, organizing, and trying to keep everything balanced, I’ve felt the weight of it all. But I’ve also been leaning heavily on my faith, and that’s made all the difference.

Reflection and Intent

Whether you call it "setting intentions", "resolutions", or "visions", we all have goals that we like to set, this year I wanted to focus on "Prayers" I am asking to be answered. I’ve spent this first month in worship and deepening my relationship with God, asking for guidance and clarity for this new chapter of life. Intentional daily Bible study, attending church and group sessions, and my new favorite - quiet moments of prayer when the house is still, this has been my foundation for navigating the uncertainty ahead.

One of my favorite verses this month has been Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” It’s a reminder that I’m not navigating this alone, and for all of you moms out there, you aren't either! You would be surprised to know how many people are going through similar or have already been through worse.

Getting Finances in Order

Another big focus for me has been budgeting. I started using the EveryDollar app to track expenses and plan for what’s ahead. A friend of mine got me hooked on The Ramsey Show, and I have been SET on getting my life going in the direction I want to be headed in. This season of life calls for intentionality, and knowing the intimate details of my finances has been bringing me a sense of control and peace. It’s all about being mindful and prepared.

Prepping for a Big Move

Speaking of preparation, we’re getting ready to move soon (News Fa-Lash). And the thought of packing up a house to move into an apartment has been very overwhelming, but I’m trying to take it one step at a time - the first step being starting.

P.S. This process has inspired me to start brainstorming future blog posts about packing tips, moving with little ones, and staying organized during big transitions. If you have any moving hacks, send them my way—I’m all ears!

Simplifying Routines

With SO much going on, I’ve been working on simplifying routines wherever possible. Meal planning on Sundays has been a lifesaver for reducing weekday stress. Even small steps, like prepping lunches the night before, help me feel more in control.

This January has been far from perfect, but leaning on my faith has reminded me that it's not always easy but it is possible! Every prayer, every quiet moment, every worship song has been fuel for this year and moving forward. If you’re feeling overwhelmed too, I encourage you to pause and take it to God - or if that's not your thing reach out to your closest mama friend and surely there's some comfort that can be found there.

Here’s to a new year of grace, growth, and intentional steps forward. How are you navigating January? I’d love to hear what’s been on your heart this month.
