First See you later - Girls Trip to the Bahamas
Leaving for my cousin’s 21st birthday trip felt like a HUGE moment—this would be my first time away from my daughter, besides daycare. There were lots of hugs, kisses, and reminders from my husband to enjoy myself (truly Olive could care less and fell asleep on the way to drop me at the airport) but I knew I was gonna miss her bad.
Travel
In an effort to save some money I decided to fly into Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami and I instantly regret it when I landed and the Uber to Miami was $60 (please don't be like me). Not only did I have to pay an arm and a leg for uber - I almost got my only ice pack (for my milk) confiscated by TSA - apparently even if it is considered a medical item there are stipulations (Freeze it first!). The agent assisting me was very understanding and after a swab for substances on it they let me through. Pumping while traveling in general was on another level. I usually pump during the day at work, but I had to pump more than usual since Olive feeds more at night, BUT even with some pumping and dumping, I proudly brought home 17 bags milk.
The pro tip? Hand over your milk to the cruise service desk for freezing—but make sure they freeze it flat! I almost had to leave a few behind because they froze them standing up.
The Cruise
Let me tell you, if you’ve never been on a cruise, “cruise stomach” is SO real. Somehow, I ate everything and was still eagerly anticipating eating again. And between the themed nights my cousin had planned (Captain’s Dinner, 80s Night, and Granny Night), and the general boat activities - a time was had! Honestly though, by the second night, I was ready to go home and the last night where we dressed as grannies I was fully sober but somehow that made it even funnier.
The only stop we had was Nassau, Bahamas where we spent the day on the beach with good music and great (And cheap) food. Let me tell you, they were giving samples of Jerk chicken and peas and rice and ughhhh! I’ll be dreaming about that meal for a long time.
Throughout the cruise communication back home was spotty, I got a few photo updates of my girl, but like I said before I was more than counting down the hours until I got to see her again.
So, for any mamas on the fence about leaving their baby for the first time —it was much needed but maybe start slow, 4 nights was CRAZY.
